bikram? i thought it was vikram!

I just got back from visiting Greg in NYC. One of the many activities that Greg had planned for us was YOGA. Not knowing greg had this planned I brought my yoga mat anyways because I wanted him to try it out with me. Greg wanted to try out the Bikram studio that was located down the street. I was a little hesitant because i’m a vinyassa fan, but was open to try it out.
The whole process was hilarious. First off, Annie brought to our attention before we were about to leave that she didn’t like to sweat. WELL, bikram is definitely not the activity of choice for a person who hates sweating. As soon as we walked into the studio we were literally gagging from the awful smell. At first I think the people working there hated us because of the disgusted facial expressions we had, but by the end of the class, our instructor was loving us. He was a really nice guy and was very impressed with our mad yoga skills. I think he had pretty low expectations of us considering we were dressed very conservatively compared to the rest of the yogi’s (meaning Greg forgot to wear his speedo, and Annie and i forgot our sport bras).
Moral of the story- we got through the class, and it wasn’t totally embarrassing. We did well, and I was really proud of Greg and Annie. I wish I had brought my camera though. ooh well. next time!
I forgot my nice towel at your place greg, so dont be afraid to get some use out of it! *Once I move into my apartment* we will try it out again!
*Wishfull thinking
Below is the desciption of Bikram and some health benefits that I think are worth knowing.
Bikram Yoga is the most demanding, yet powerful and exciting sort of Hatha Yoga in the world today. It involves 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises in 90 minutes, all performed in a room heated to 105 degrees.

Scientifically and methodically designed by Bikram Choudhury to warm up and stretch every joint, muscle, ligament, tendon, vertebrae and organ of the body down to the cellular level, all this is achieved in a way in which it should be ideally be done. By moving fresh blood and oxygen to all areas of the body, all of the systems of the body are restored. Every cell of your body is revived, reorganized, invigorated and restimulated! As a result you end up getting a healthy body and a healthy mind. The heated environment is initially very challenging, helping to increase will power and mental strength. Heavy sweating helps detoxify the body, and as the blood thins, the circulatory system is cleared. Weight loss is made easier because your muscles are warmed and can burn fat more easily.
